Homemade for Kids - Hamilton

To create simple home made items such as knitted blankets, mitts, scarfs, pajama, or stuffed toys for kids who are in a "distress" situation.

I am currently making and gathering donations of home made items such as crotchet / sewed / knitted baby blankets, scarfs, mitts, hats, hand made soft toys, pajama (etc etc) and doniating them to various women/child distress centers in the Hamilton and surrounding area.  I target children under the age of 13, especially the very young.  When I gather enough items I make a package and send an annonomus donation to a local charities / shelters / support house.

I challenge individuals to donate their home made items which I can then add to the packages beign assembled.  I also challenge others to start a donation drive in their own communities.

Items don't have to be fancy, just simple and home made.  You don't have to have superior skills, just be someone who wants to make a difference.  Any item, size, colour, style is fine !  If you don't have a lot of time, sew a simple flannel blanket.  If you have lots of time, knit a sweater - the time committment is completly yours to choose.

the impact

Children can feel very high levels of stress, anxiety, fear, and loss when they are living in a distress situation.  They need to feel comfort and security, and having a simple home made item can often give them some sence of security.
