Cottage Dreams Cancer Recovery Initiative

Cancer not only touches the person who is diagnosed. The entire family must deal with the fear, disruption and financial hardship that treatment often brings so Cottage Dreams was created with this in mind. Recent cancer survivors and thier families are invited to stay at a private, donated cottage for one week after treatment to reconnect, rejuvenate and have some fun together. This is a free program for Ontario residents of all ages and any cancer. For more information, please be in touch!!

Health Council of Canada

The Prime Minister and the Premiers accepted the advice of the Kirby Report, The Health of Canadians - the Federal Role, (October 2002) and the Romanow Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada (November 2002). Both reports identified the value of an independent council informing Canadians on health care matters while promoting accountability and transparency. Canada's First Ministers established the Council in their 2003 Accord on Health Care Renewal and enhanced its role in the 2004 Ten Year Plan.
Funded by the Government of Canada, the Council reports to the Canadian public and operates as a non-profit agency. We have 26 councillors including representatives of federal, provincial and territorial governments, experts and citizen representatives. Councillors have a broad range of experience bringing perspectives from government, health care management, research and community life from across Canada.

Heart and Stroke Foundation

Org focus: health and wellness
The Heart and Stroke Foundation, a volunteer-based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact by delivering breakthrough medical advances, social change and health education to Canadians.
In 2007, the Foundation invested more than $100 million into research, the promotion of healthy living and community programs, relying on the generous donations of millions of Canadians. The Foundation receives no operational funding from government sources.

The Foundation is gravely concerned about the growing rates of childhood obesity and its impact on the current and future health of our children. In Canada, 26% of children ages 2 to 17 are overweight or obese. The Foundation is committed to improving the health of our children through supporting an environment that encourages and enables children to be active and have access to healthy food.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is a federation of 10 provincial Foundations, led and supported by a force of more than 140,000 volunteers.
Join a heart month campaign in your province:
Heart disease and stroke are responsible for 1 in 3 Canadian deaths every year. Take a few hours this February and join our community of Heart Month Volunteers.

MS Climb '09

We are committed to raising a $1 Million in support of research and people living with MS. We do this by providing Climbers with a once in a life-time adventure to tackle a physical challenge of climbing either the 4 days of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peu or a 7 day climb up Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. In return, the Climbers take on raising $7500 to participate in the Machu Picchu climb or $10000 for the Mt Kilimanjaro.

2008 was our first year, we took 23 MS Climbers to Peru, climbed to Machu Picchu and raised over $150K for MS. This year we are creating 4 Climbs - (leaving in Sept/Oct '09) two each to Machu Picchu and Mt Kilimanjaro with the goal of continuing funds for the MS Society of Canada.

We are looking for Climbers and also volunteers who can help us get to our fund-raising goal.
