Diane McQuaig: Camp Cucumber
In June, single moms & their kids get a chance to head north for a week away from the stresses of life.
Diane McQuaig has long been involved in giving back to the community but after hosting a very successful Christmas dinner for single-mom families from the Jane/Finch Community, she decided to put together something really big: Camp Cucumber. Run entirely by volunteers, it offers single moms on financial assistance and their kids a unique, stress-free weeklong camping adventure. Every June since 1990, moms and kids hop on a bus and head north for a week of swimming, canoeing, fishing, craftmaking and the great outdoors - away from the stresses and strains of city life.
