Geoff Cape: Evergreen
Inspired by Central Park, Geoff started Evergreen to deepen the connection between people, the city & nature.
During a 1989 visit to New York City, Geoff Cape was inspired by Central Park and returned to Toronto with an understanding of the importance of incorporating nature into urban living. He launched Evergreen in 1991 and the organization has developed thousands of school projects and community greening initiatives like tree planting and community gardens. They also converted Toronto’s Brick Works into an environmentally sustainable space for green events and to explore the future of sustainable city building. Evergreen has a mandate of engaging Canadians to create and sustain dynamic outdoor spaces in schools, communities and homes – and deepening the connection between people and nature.
