What we can offer other members and organizations:

Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation (COTERC) hasn't listed any offers yet.

The mission of the Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation is to provide leadership in education, research, conservation, and the educated use of natural resources in the tropics.
We offer free educational products and presentations here in Canada and run the Biological Research station, Caño Palma, in Costa Rica. The station allows us to run research and conservation programs with the aid of international volunteers. All available research is made available to the public and is utilized in our presentations and educational programs.

What we might need from other members and organizations:

Volunteers, Financing or Grants, Skills or Expertise, Equipment or Materials

We are always looking for volunteers in Costa Rica to help us with the following programs currently running in Costa Rica: Marine Turtle Monitoring and Community Conservation Program, Resident Breeding Bird Survey, Migratory and Resident Bird Monitoring Program, Large Mammal and Primate Monitoring Program and the Community Reforestation Program. We are always struggling to fund these programs and require financing and grants to keep operations going. We are always looking for donated items for our fundraising events or your time to help these programs keep current.

how Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation (COTERC) gets involved

In Costa Rica, we are based at the Caño Palma Biological Station near the village of Tortuguero on the northeast Atlantic coast.
The station provides facilities to accommodate up to 30. There is a screened in kitchen/dining room, library, and we are hooked up to the nation's electricity system. A cellular telephone provides communication to the outside world.
Caño Palma Biological Station consists of approximately 100 acres of Atlantic lowland wet rainforest and is located four miles north of the small village of Tortuguero, on the northeast Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It is situated within the boundaries of Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge and is bordered on three sides by rivers, and by secondary rainforest on the remaining side. A distance of 200 meters separates the Station from the Caribbean Ocean, across the river. The adjacent beach is a major nesting site for leatherback and green sea turtles. Our monitoring programs have had a large impact on the protection and preservation of these endangered species.
