We need volunteer mentors aged 16 to 29 to mentor our juniors aged 6 to 15.
Young professionals and post secondary students/grads especially males needed.

Wanted: MANDARIN SPEAKING VOLUNTEER MENTORS

ROLE OF MENTORO:
sharing wisdom, skills, and experience with a less experienced person, and through this exchange making a difference in a kid's life. As mentor you will inpire, and guide a kid to succeed.
Mentorship is all about setting a good example and having fun with a child!

Time required:
Hang out with your junior for 3 hours per week for a year.
We train you, and you can do it on your own schedule.

Benefits:
Attend attractions, professional sports events, etc. together.
FREE passes/tickets provided.
Scholarships available.

VOLUNTEER MENTOR DESCRIPTION:
We provide comprehensive training, as volunteer mentor you provide positive support, coaching and leadership to youth on a one-to-one basis or in groups including after school programs, arts and/or recreational activities.
Second language skills are sought but not required.

HOW DOES IT HELP?
1. Helping the child think more positively and proactively.
2. Listening when the child has a question, problem, or topic to discuss.
3. Identifying child�??s feelings and verifying them (providing feedback).
4. Encouraging positive behaviors, and effectively confronting negative behaviors.
5. Providing appropriate information and support
6. Encouraging and inspiring Mentee
7. Sharing your experiences, skills and knowledge.

about Youth Assisting Youth:

The Youth Mentoring People
YAY l Youth Assisting Youth is a non-profit charitable organization that provides a peer mentoring service to improve life prospects for youth at risk and newcomer children. YAY matches children aged 6 to 15 with trained and dedicated Youth Volunteer Mnetors aged 16 to 29 who act as positive role models.

Since 1976 YAYl Youth Assisting has helped more than 20,000 young people.

how Youth Assisting Youth gets involved

YAY l Youth Assisting Youth Volunteer Mentors range from age 16 to 29. Police Officers from both our Toronto and York Region partner as part of our core Volunteer Mentors. Through our Tri-Mentoring program we encourage Professionals to share their expertise.

YAY l Youth Assisting Youth recruitment of Youth Volunteer Mentors is conducted in high schools, colleges and universities, community groups and in the workplace.

YAY l Youth Assisting Youth encourages young adults from all cultures and diverse backgrounds to become peer mentors. In sharing their life experiences Volunteer Mentors recognize the importance of commitment to others, the value of community involvement and the positive impact that individuals can have on the world around them.

YAY l Youth Assisting Youth Volunteer Mentors attend mandatory workshops to identify and deal with issues on cultural diversity, mentoring, child management and child abuse awareness. Volunteers are screened to assess their commitment, skills and level of responsibility. Screening includes personal references, police records check and a home visit.

YAY l Youth Assisting Youth staff support is available 24/7 for Volunteer Mentors. Weekly events provide an opportunity for both, Volunteers Mentors and Junior children to interact and share in fun activities. In addition our Volunteer Mentors are encouraged to apply for a scholarship and participate in our Tri- Mentoring Program.
