about Hope Air:

Hope Air is the only national charity to provide free flights for essential medical care to people in financial need. We are not an air ambulance service, but we are the vital link in the Canadian health care continuum to connect patients with the care they need. In 2009, 2,318 flights were arranged with help from hundreds of caring flight and office volunteers who logged over 4,865 hours of volunteer time. Approximately 50 per cent of the flights provided are for children from all provinces and suffering from a wide range of illnesses.

how Hope Air gets involved

Hope Air operates two flight programs to ensure that we help as many Canadians as possible: The Commercial Airline Partner Program or the Volunteer Pilot Program (VPP). The Commercial Airline Partner Program, which includes most national and regional airlines, uses donated seats, frequent flyer points, seat vouchers and/or the purchase of seats using donations secured from individuals, organizations and corporations across Canada.

In 1999, Hope Air launched the Volunteer Pilot Program with the goal of extending our service to communities not well covered by commercial airlines. This innovative program brings general aviation pilots and their aircraft into service and has enhanced Hope Air's ability to assist more Canadians in need. To date, over 1,800 missions have been completed by our qualified pilot base.
